Chestnut Health Systems is seeking a full-time Prevention Specialist for our Joliet, IL facility.


Chestnut Health Systems is a leading provider of behavioral and primary health care services. We provide fully integrated care for all of our patients by combining behavioral health care services with our community-based primary care health centers.   • Assess need for program implementation.
  • Plan and implement best practices for youth including youth prevention education and youth groups.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials, which promote best practices in prevention.
  • Participate in collaborations that advance awareness and involvement in substance abuse prevention.
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to community groups and agencies within the service area to implement the Strategic Prevention Framework including the selection of evidence-based and culturally competent substance abuse prevention strategies.
  • Conduct program evaluations.
  • Give input into the development of the annual DHS work plan.
  • Prepare program documentation and reports.
  • Fulfill agency responsibilities related to staff development, agency meetings and committees and other responsibilities as designated by supervisor.
  • Promote Chestnut’s culture of customer service excellence through the adherence to Chestnut’s behavioral standards for customer service.


  • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in education or behavioral health field with minimum of five (5) years’ experience in related field; or a Master’s degree in behavioral health related field.
  • Preferred skills/knowledge areas include: multi-cultural sensitivity; knowledge and understanding of adolescent development and school systems; bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking and writing skills a plus; and understanding of prevention theory, learning styles, curriculum development and/or community coalitions including Strategic Prevention Framework.  Preferred experience includes coordinating community-based activities, working with youth, and/or delivering school-based programs. 
  • Good organizational skills and verbal written communication skills required.
  • Satisfactory completion of Chestnut’s background checking process.
