Overview

Chestnut Health Systems is seeking a full-time, 3rd shift Recovery Assistant for our Maryville, IL facility, servicing the Metro East and St. Louis, MO areas.

 

A shift differential is available for weekend, evening, and overnight hours.

Responsibilities

  • Support and model Recovery Value of Hope by maintaining a strength-based approach, encouraging clients and advocating for their success.
  • Support and model Recovery Value of Respect by speaking to clients and colleagues assertively, answering their questions to the best of our ability, treating others with unconditional positive regard and dignity, speaking with a calm tone of voice and using the clients’ names.
  • Support and model Recovery Value of Empowerment by offering support and guidance yet allowing clients to make and learn from their own choices without being punitive, avoiding power struggles, including clients input into treatment planning, daily scoring and homework/assignments.
  • Support and model Recovery Value of Health/Wellness by modeling and encouraging clients to engage in healthy eating, physical exercise and healthy coping strategies. Take responsibility for the cleanliness of the unit/building by teaching and assisting clients with their chores and taking responsibility for unit and staff areas. 
  • Support and model Recovery Value of Spirituality/Connectedness by maintaining positive and healthy relationships with colleagues and clients, encouraging teamwork and supporting colleagues and clients. Assist clients in finding ways to build their own spirituality and connectedness in recovery according to their own beliefs. 
  • Demonstrate understanding of adolescent development and trauma throughout interactions with clients, assignments/homework given and expectations set.
  • Supervise residential youth AOD clients in the facility during designated hours according to the established schedule by being present on the unit, knowing the location of all residential clients (including during emergency situations) and monitoring their interactions with each other.
  • Maintain a safe living environment for youth residential clients by understanding signs and risks of harm to self and others and following the approved procedures for Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Suicide and Run Alerts and Basic First Aid.
  • Provide specific behavior and emotion management skills to AOD clients, by reinforcing positive coping strategies, encouraging clients’ strengths and redirecting clients to more healthy coping choices.
  • Facilitate AOD groups according to daily schedule including psycho-educational skills groups, self-help group, recreation, and goals or goals wrap up.
  • Assist in completion of specific AOD objectives in individual treatment plan, including conducting individualized A-CRA procedures.
  • Assist in serving meals and snacks according to daily menu/dietary requirements.
  • Monitor and document scheduled and random urine screens for same gender youth AOD clients.
  • Monitor self-administration of medication according to Medication Administration Record (MAR) and ensure all storage, security and documentation policies are followed.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, maintaining objectivity and acting as an advocate for the client.
  • Participate in program and staff development activities, including supervision, initial training and competencies, mandatory trainings and achieving ACRA certification and maintenance of fidelity according to policy.
  • Maintain records of clients and services provided including progress notes, group scores, admission and discharge paperwork, daily duty sheet and incident reports.
  • Maintain and protect confidentiality and security of all organizational information gained in the course of performing job responsibilities including, but not limited to, financial and client information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years old with a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Must display an interest and ability to work with youth effectively.
  • Must regularly be available to work overnight shifts.
  • Availability to work overnight on weekends a plus.
  • Requires basic computer skills and experience to include MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.  Prefer experience with an electronic medical record (EMR). 
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills required.
  • Experience in working with adolescent substance abuse (alcohol and other drugs) is also preferred.
  • Satisfactory completion of Chestnut’s background checking process.
