Intern – Youth and Family Support Services

If you're a college student or recent graduate with a passion for helping others, this role is perfect for you to gain hands-on experience in counseling, social work, or psychology while making a positive impact in the lives of youth and families.

One unpaid opportunity is available at each location: Belleville, IL, Granite City, IL, and St. Charles, MO.

• Data and Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate completion of paperwork, including assessments, recovery plans, progress notes, and other necessary documentation.
• Service Delivery: Provide client-driven services that align with treatment plans.
• Recovery Support: Promote a trauma-informed recovery model by encouraging hope, empowerment, health, wellness, and spirituality. You’ll support clients in taking control of their own recovery.
• Referrals and Advocacy: Assist clients and families by connecting them to necessary resources within Chestnut and the community.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, attend staff meetings, and participate in program development. You’ll also communicate with families, schools, probation officers, and other key people in the client's life.
• Hands-On Work: Deliver services in natural environments when possible, using evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and trauma-informed care.
• Confidentiality: Safeguard all organizational and consumer information.

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, education, or related human services field OR, a bachelor's degree in any field with at least two years of supervised clinical experience in a mental health setting.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and experience with electronic medical records.
• Valid driver's license, private automobile insurance, and insurability required.
• Must be able to successfully complete Chestnut’s background check.
