Overview

Chestnut Health Systems is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Purchasing Assistant to support our purchasing and inventory functions. This position plays a key role in ensuring our offices and remote locations are equipped with the necessary supplies and resources to operate effectively. The ideal candidate will have experience in purchasing or inventory control, strong communication skills, and a commitment to excellent customer service.

Since 1973, Chestnut has grown to more than 800 committed, compassionate employees providing substance use, mental health, and primary care treatment to patients in Illinois and Missouri. We provide fully integrated care for all our patients by combining behavioral health care services with our community-based primary care health centers. Chestnut also conducts research and training throughout the U.S.A.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventory of office, medical, janitorial, and maintenance supplies
  • Fulfill supply requests for both central and remote locations
  • Place weekly food and supply orders
  • Assist with ensuring office equipment is in good working condition
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for supplies and equipment
  • Place orders with vendors and make in-store purchases as needed
  • Assist in resolving purchase order and invoice discrepancies
  • Receive deliveries at the central location and verify receiving documents from remote sites
  • Demonstrate Chestnut’s mission of “Improving quality of life through excellence in service” in all interactions
  • Promote a culture of customer service excellence by adhering to behavioral standards
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all sensitive organizational information
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in purchasing and/or inventory control
  • General knowledge of office procedures, computer usage, and office equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and customer service mindset
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, private automobile insurance, and be insurable
  • Ability to lift/push up to 25 pounds

The anticipated starting pay for new hires for this position is between $16.00 - $17.00 an hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education, experience, local market conditions, and internal equity.
