Overview

Chestnut Family Dental in Bloomington is seeking a compassionate and skilled full-time Expanded Functions Certified Dental Assistant to join our integrated care team. In this role, you’ll support high-quality dental care for patients of all ages, with a focus on dignity, respect, and health equity. You’ll work closely with dental providers and administrative staff to ensure a smooth, welcoming experience for every patient.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check patients in and out, schedule appointments, and manage phone communications.
  • Prepare for appointments by reviewing charts, identifying care gaps, and gathering necessary documentation.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, collect health histories, and accurately document in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Take and record vital signs, recognizing when to escalate abnormal findings.
  • Set up treatment rooms and assist with inventory and sterilization processes.
  • Support dentists using four-handed techniques and perform expanded functions such as Coronal polishing, placement of pit and fissure sealants, and application of fluoride varnish.
  • Educate patients and families on oral hygiene and preventive care.
  • Follow all infection control protocols and safety procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing training.
  • Maintain CPR certification and complete required trainings.
  • Support compliance with HRSA, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a clinical dental assistant preferred.
  • Experience in general dentistry and working with diverse age groups is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with digital X-rays and electronic dental records preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, a friendly demeanor, and a commitment to patient-centered care.

The anticipated starting pay for new hires for this position is between $19.85 - $23.35 an hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education, experience, local market conditions, and internal equity.
